Join us at the Poly for a creative family-friendly workshop celebrating Cornwall’s rich sea-based art, history and science. Using paint, stencils you’ll design and make colourful flags inspired by Cornwall’s maritime heritage, marine science, folklore, and arts. These flags will be paraded through the streets of Falmouth at Falmouth Carnival on August 8th, and will be available to take home following the event.
Alongside the flag-making, we’ll work together to create a giant papier-mâché sea monster Morgawr sculpture ready for the festivities! Everyone is welcome, and we hope participants will join us in waving their handmade flags during the walking parade at Falmouth Carnival, complete with water pistols and bubble machines.
This workshop involves painting and papier mache, it is advised to bring old clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
Optional: Bring your own ideas, this might be an image on your phone representing a local art, history or scientific object that we can make into a stencil. This might be an image of your favourite surfboard, a coastal dish, your favourite seaweed or a historically significant boat. We will also have plenty of materials on site and pre-made stencils that you can use.
These workshops are open to anyone, but will be particularly fun for families with children aged 5-12.
Cost: £1 Poly Fund
